Didn’t feel very well this morning/afternoon so I did pretty much nothing until after dinner, but in the brief time that I did spend in the garage I made some progress, removing the HVAC and some other odds & ends from the firewall of the Chevelle.
So much rubbery undercoating to remove...
Next up I need to disconnect the brake pedal clevis so I can unbolt the booster and swing it out of the way, then I can start cleaning up the firewall & cowl
. At some point the transmission will come out, but I don’t really have anywhere to put it and it isn’t in the way where it is (yet).

I have to take my front bumper off tomorrow and am nervous. Seeing this makes me feel like a wuss

Baby steps! Everyone’s got to start somewhere.
Is the bumper of the truck or one of the modern cars? If it’s the truck, no problem. If it’s the fiesta or kia (?) then I’d be a little nervous as well. Super easy to put on but removing a modern bumper cover without breaking any clips is pretty hairy.

It’s the Fiesta... I have to remove the whole front end

Oof. Take your time and it should be fine; worst case it’s new enough getting clips shouldn’t be too hard.

Are you going to do the steering components while the sheet metal is off? When I did my steering box a few months ago I was wishing I did it before I put the fenders on.

The whole front suspension and steering linkage (except the rag joint and box) has about 1k miles on it, I did it shortly before the car went into storage (hence the dirt/rust). While it’s apart I’m going to clean up and paint tho
se parts.
The box itself I’d like to replace, I’m not sure what with. I know years ago the jeep grand cherokee box was the go-to upgrade, but I believe since then
good boxes have become
hard to come by - not sure what the current bang-for-buck box replacement is.

I definitely hear you about the supply of boxes. The one I bought was the last one NAPA had in their system. Everything else was either out of stock, had crappy reviews for being a bad rebuild or was a brand new aftermarket piece that ran $700 or more. The new one was a huge improvement, though.
